The Business Journal of Phoenix – 7:34 PM MST Thursday
The Ellman Cos. Thursday completed the acquisition of the 2,200-acre Goldfield Preserve property, located just east of Fountain Hills, for $133 million in cash.

The transaction was brokered by Nate Nathan and Dave Mullard of Nathan and Associates. Financing for this transaction was provided by a consortium of Wall Street financial institutions, led by Credit Suisse.

The development company, headed by Steve Ellman, plans to develop Goldfield Preserve into a high-end residential community.

Ellman Cos. also is the developer of Westgate City Center adjacent to Glendale Arena.

Polish entrepreneur Thomas Gorny last fall relocated his growing Web-hosting business, IPower Inc., to Phoenix.

Since then, he has added 160 jobs in the Valley and now employs 240 people here.

Gorny, who came to the United States from Germany, landed in Phoenix because he owned real estate here on which he intended to build a data center. As he started adding employees, the center eclipsed his Los Angeles office, which now employs about 40. Read the rest of this entry »

SCOTTSDALE – Scottsdale and Arizona State University officials hammered out a deal Wednesday that gives the city a financial break for allowing ASU to build 325 apartments at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center.

Bermuda firm may build facility in Valley, averting loss of 400 jobs

Marvell Technology Group Ltd., a $1.8 billion-a-year computer-chip maker based in Hamilton, Bermuda, plans to open an Arizona location to house the communications and application processor business it is buying from Intel Corp.

Marvell’s decision is good news for the 400 Arizonans who work for the Intel division. They faced being laid off or transferred to a Marvell facility in Santa Clara, Calif., where the cost of living is significantly higher than in the Valley. Read the rest of this entry »
