ON Semiconductor Corp. Thursday announced second-quarter revenue of $375 million compared with $303 million for the same period in 2005.
The company also reported net income of $67.5 million, or 19 cents per share, which included approximately $3.3 million of restructuring, asset impairments and other charges. That’s a considerable jump from second-quarter 2005’s $18.5 million, or 5 cents per share.
“The second quarter was another strong quarter for ON Semiconductor,” said Keith Jackson, president and chief executive. “Our improving mix, new product introductions and cost competitive manufacturing capabilities helped drive record quarterly gross margin percentage, net income and earnings per share.”
Phoenix-based ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ:ONNN) supplies power solutions to engineers, purchasing professionals, distributors and contract manufacturers in the computer, cell phone, portable devices, automotive and industrial markets.

Freescale Semiconductor Inc. chips are embedded in billions of devices around the world, from automobiles to computer networks to wireless devices. Still, when the company was spun off from Motorola Inc. two years ago, its ability to power itself was uncertain.
Aggressive new management, a revamped product line and an improving semiconductor market have helped make the Austin, Texas-based Freescale a success story.
Earlier this month, Freescale unveiled a new generation memory chip called MRAM that was developed in Chandler and puts the company ahead of its competitors in a race to find more efficient ways to store information. The chip also will be manufactured in Chandler. Read the rest of this entry »

IN ANOTHER TROUBLING SIGNAL FOR newspapers and TV news organizations, the Pew Research Center for People and the Press released a new study Sunday indicating more Americans are using the Internet to get their news. One in three Americans now rely regularly on the Internet for accessing news, up from one in 50 ten years ago.Â

The state’s largest business lobby is willing to forgive some legislators for supporting penalties on companies that knowingly hire undocumented workers.
But not all those seeking election got a bye.
In its annual list of endorsements, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry is backing 35 candidates for 60 House seats and 20 contenders for 30 Senate posts. In most cases, an incumbent got the support. Five Democrats are on the endorsement list, all incumbents. Read the rest of this entry »

The former headquarters for The Arizona Republic in downtown Phoenix has sold for $175 million.
San Francisco-based Digital Realty Trust Inc. bought the building at 120 E. Van Buren St.
The firm plans to add 30,000 square feet to the property to accommodate a growing demand for data space in the Phoenix area. Read the rest of this entry »

A STATE JUDGE IN ARIZONA has approved a deal that Google struck with search marketers to settle a click-fraud lawsuit for up to $60 million in ad credits and $30 million in attorneys’ fees.
In a written ruling signed Wednesday, Judge Joe Griffin found the deal “fair, reasonable and adequate,” rebuffing objections of lawyers who represent search marketers in another click-fraud case. Read the rest of this entry »
